After the splendid Rekhachithram in January 2025, Malayalam cinema came up with another thriller, titled Officer on Duty, starring Kunchacko Boban in the role of a cop. The Jithu Ashraf directorial, which turned out to be a hit at the box office, is now set for its OTT premiere on Netflix on March 20, 2025. From the gripping plot by Shahi Kabir to terrific performances by the Kunchacko Boban-led cast, here are the reasons as to why you should watch Officer on Duty on Netflix.
Shahi Kabir has penned the story of Officer on Duty, which centres around a cop Harishankar, who has been demoted to the post of CI. The action-packed film follows the events after he takes up a fake jewellery case, that leads to a series of events that are even connected to his past. Directed by debutant Jithu Ashraf, the film packs in enough action and thrilling moments even while staying realistic, which has mostly been the case in Malayalam cinema. Shahi Kabir had previously helmed Ela Veezha Poonchira, and also scripted films such as Joseph and Nayattu, all of which revolve around cops or police investigation.
Kunchacko Boban headlines the film, bringing in the right amount of intensity and nuance to his character Harishankar who is grappling with a myriad of emotions even while focussing on his duty at hand. The actor, who had earlier aced in thrillers such as Anjaam Pathiraa, once again impresses with his powerful performance.
The film also has a stellar supporting cast, which includes names such as Jagadish, Priyamani, and Vishak Nair. All three of them have proved their mastery over character roles. Jagadish, who previously starred with Kunchacko Boban in more light-hearted films, ably supports him as KSRTC bus conductor Chandrababu in Officer on Duty. Priyamani too does justice to her role as Harishankar’s wife. Vishak Nair as the antagonist also leaves a mark, while the rest of the cast also includes Ramzan Muhammed, Meenakshi Anoop, and Aadukalam Naren, who deliver what is expected of them.
