The Aashiqui saga is gearing up to make its way onto the silver screen yet again, this time with Kartik Aaryan leading the romantic drama. The actor will join hands with Anurag Basu for the first ever time for the third instalment in the Aashiqui film franchise. Rahul Roy, who had headlined the original 1990 film recently reacted to the news of Kartik’s casting.

In conversation with Pinkvilla, Rahul had nothing but good things to say about Kartik's casting. Calling the latter a ‘wonderful young actor’, Rahul said that Kartik had a history of choosing the right kind of projects. Admitting that he has not been able to speak to Kartik personally as yet, Rahul said that he hopes to talk to the actor one day.

Rahul went on to say that Kartik represented the new generation and, as the film was something made for the youth, Kartik would be the perfect match for the role. “The box-office figures are also working in Kartik’s favour, so I wish him all the best in continuing the great franchise”, said Rahul.

Rahul expressed his elation about Aashiqui being considered a cult classic film and about the franchise getting bigger. However, Rahul believes that even though the film series can be expanded, Aashiqui can never be remade or replicated. The actor spoke of how the presentation of the film franchise could be tweaked to excite modern day audiences. Although he does not want Aashiqui to be remade, he said a remake would be alright provided that the essence of the film is kept alive when it is being remade. “It will be a huge struggle for Kartik to live up to,”he added.

Aashiqui, directed by Mahesh Bhatt, also featured Anu Aggarwal and Deepak Tijori in pivotal roles and can be streamed on Youtube.
