More than a day after advance bookings for Pawan Kalyan’s latest, They Call Him OG, opened, fans were in for a surprise, when paid premieres were opened in Bengaluru. Instead of a 6.30 am start on September 25, OG is now opening on September 24 with at least 100 shows across the city, most of which are sold out or fast filling. The premiere shows are only for the Telugu original version of the Sujeet directorial.

Interestingly, even though single-screen theatres across Bengaluru had opened bookings for the film, early in the week, national multiplex chains did not until the morning of September 24, presumably waiting for word from the case against the Karnataka government’s order capping ticket prices at Rs 200 (plus taxes). On September 23, the petitioners had received interim relief, when the High Court stayed the order until the next hearing, allowing multiplexes to hike ticket prices for OG.
The ticket rates for the paid premieres, for instance, are going in the range of Rs 500 - Rs 1200, with the average price at multiplexes around Rs 900. On September 25, though, the rates range between Rs 300 and Rs 900, a sizeable drop, yet much higher than the Rs 236 that the government had fixed, except for luxury halls with seating capacity of less than 75. The Bengaluru pre-sales has exceeded the gross of the actor’s earlier Hari Hara Veera Mallu Karnataka premieres. Interestingly, an interim order allowing for hiked ticket prices in AP/Telangana has been suspended by the Telangana High Court.
As per a synopsis on a ticket aggregator, the plot of OG revolves around the return of mob boss Ojas Gambheera (OG) after leaving the Mumbai underworld for a decade. Intent to reclaim his empire, he faces off with the current kingpin Omi Bhau, setting off a war between the two parties.
