Ombatthane Dikku, directed by Dayal Padmanabhan, was one of the first Kannada films to release when theatres reopened after the third wave of the pandemic at 50% occupancy, way back in January. The film, which received favourable reviews then, has now come to OTT, so, if you missed watching it in theatres, here’s your chance. Ombatthane Dikku has dropped on Amazon Prime Video.
The Kannada remake of the Tamil film Kurangu Bommai, Ombatthane Dikky had Loose Mada Yogi, Ashok, Aditi Prabhudeva, Sampath and Saikumar, among others, in pivotal roles. The film revolves around a duffel bag (with a compass symbol on it), its contents and who is in possession of it at any given point of time. A simpleton, Vasu (Ashok), is a close associate of local thug Varada (Saikumar). Such is their bond, that when Varada comes in possession of a stolen temple idol worth Rs 5 crore, he entrusts Vasu to bring it to Bengaluru, where a middleman, Loki (Sampath) has brokered a deal. But when Vasu and the bag goes missing, a search begins, with his son Channa (Yogi) looking for his father, and Varada and gang on the lookout for Loki, Vasu and the bag. When the bag is finally found, a different story unfolds.
Ombatthane Dikku is a film told in a non-linear narrative, which, Dayal had always maintained was its biggest plus point. The gripping thriller has music by Manikanth Kadri, which was also a major highlight.
