Kannada actor-producer Daali Dhananjaya has had a very busy 2022 with as many as six film releases. Shortly after the success of his debut home production Badava Rascal at the fag end of 2021, he began his 2022 innings with a Malayalam-Kannada bilingual 21 Hours. Then came the Shivarajkumar-led Bairagee, Monsoon Raaga, Thotapuri Chapter 1, Head Bush and then, finally Once Upon a Time in Jamaligudda. Some of them, like Monsoon Raaga, Head Bush and even Once Upon a Time in Jamaligudda came with great expectations, but unfortunately, none of them made inroads at the box office. So, while Dhananjaya had a lot of releases, they didn’t do much for his market value.
Once Upon a Time in Jamaligudda, in which he was paired with Thotapuri co-star Aditi Prabhudeva, was the directorial debut of Kushal Gowda and was about a convict on the run, Hiroshima (Dhananjaya) and his merry road trip with a little girl called Chukki. As an adult, Chukki revisits this trip in trying to figure out how Krishna came to be Hiroshima, his relationship with Rukmini (Aditi) and more. The film, which was first announced as a September 9 release and then pushed ahead to December 30, also stars Praanya P Rao, Prakash Belawadi, Bhavana Ramanna, Yash Shetty, among others.
The digital and satellite rights of the film have been picked up by Sun Network, we hear, so it will get its TV premiere on Udaya TV and OTT outing on SunNXT. The film is likely to land on SunNXT on February 19, but this will depend on its TV premiere, as Sun Network is known to prioritise it over OTT. Should Once Upon a Time in Jamaligudda come on Udaya TV in mid-February, then the OTT outing will be a few days later. SunNXT is yet to confirm the date.
