Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe comes with certain expectations – it is Vinay Rajkumar’s first major release in a while and unites him with director Simple Suni. What they’ve promised is a simple love story, with comedy, family drama and emotions and if the buzz on social media is anything to go by, they have delivered on all counts. Although there were a bunch of paid premieres last night, reports from the first day first show audience is trickling in only now and so far, the response to the film’s been largely positive.

Suni is known for his trademark wisecracks, which he uses abundantly in his films too as one-liners, and that is something that audiences have really liked. The film’s dialogues and songs have also received praise, as well as the perfect casting, with Vinay and Swathishta Krishnan getting special mentions. Most importantly, despite coming out as a Valentine’s week presentation and being billed a rom-com, Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe is a family entertainment movie, which, audiences say, is its greatest USP.

Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe revolves around Athishay (Vinay), an aspiring music director, who works at actor-musician Sadhu Kokila’s studio as an assistant. The girl of his dreams is the one whose voice will be in sync with the rhythm of his heart and that search leads him to Madhura (Mallika Singh). But then, Athishay is hoodwinked into marrying his childhood pal and family friend Anuraga (Swathishta), who is also harbouring feelings for some unknown guy who’d gone out of his way to help her in a dire situation. How Athishay and Anuraga navigate through their current predicament and head out to find where their hearts truly belong is the crux of the film.

Speaking to OTTplay earlier, Vinay had said that he’d been looking forward to collaborate with Suni for a while, but it just never came together until Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe. The prospect of working with Suni apart, Vinay said that the story, which has comedy, family drama and emotional stuff, and his characterisation appealed to him.
