One Night is an Australian series, written and created by Emily Ballou, and directed by Catharine Miller and Lisa Matthews. The limited series’ trailer dropped a couple of days ago for fans outside Australia and served a poignant insight into the six-episode thriller. One Night will be releasing on November 24, on Paramount+.
One Night focuses on the varying layers of consent and perspective, by tracing the life of three women who are about to relive their trauma, from a horrendous incident that took place one fateful night in their youth. More than 20 years ago, when consent was not a known and common notion, did the crime occur in One Night.
Gal pals Simone, Tess, and Hat were partying their hearts out, drinking and dancing the night away. However, a few drinks later the night gets blurry and Tess is later found in a compromised condition, she had been raped by those very men who had been warm and friendly earlier, especially Trevor. But all that is in the past now. Or is it?
In a delicious execution of flashbacks and personal trauma manifestations, the series goes back and forth between the younger and present selves of Simone, Tess, and Hat, as they try to maneuver the perilous waters rejuvenated by Simone’s eponymous first novel, which she based on that ill-fated night without taking her friends’ consent.
However, their intra-conflict must be put to rest as an old enemy comes back into their lives, forcing them to face what do they really remember of that ‘one night.’ Starring Jodie Whittaker as Tess, Nicole da Silva as Simone, Yael Stone as Hat, and Errol Shand as Trevor in the primary roles, the series promises a punch full of flavor and fervor.
