Filmmaker Onir has expressed how he feels about Karan Johar’s recent opinion over Yodha-Merry Christmas clash. The maker took an indirect dig at KJo’s opinion on the matter. Onir pointed out how the same filmmakers do not pave the way for small-budget indie films.

“Big Bollywood releases get so upset when there is another big budget release on the same day, and they talk about how we should all care for each other in the industry. But don't think for a second when they deprive a small-budget indie film of a tiny number of good shows to survive,” Onir tweeted.

The tweet came some time after Karan Johar expressed his strong views on Yodha-Merry Christmas clash. Yodha is produced under Karan’s Dharma Productions and features Sidharth Shukla in the lead role opposite Disha Patani. Meanwhile, Merry Christmas features Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles. The film is directed and produced by Sriram Raghavan. Both the movies are slated to release in theatres on December 15.

On hearing about Merry Christmas date announcement, Karan got furious and took to Threads. He mentioned that there was no formal communication to discuss if the clash will be a healthy choice for the films. He said that if the filmmakers do not unite even as movies releasing in theatres suffer, then calling Bollywood the film fraternity is futile.

Onir has often been vocal about indie films not getting enough screens at the Box Office. The filmmaker himself is known to make some gems like My Brother Nikhil and I Am.
