The second week of January, which heralds the first festival of the year, Sankranti/Pongal, is normally a time when big-ticket Tamil/Telugu films hit theatres. Traditionally, Kannada films have taken a backseat and allowed neighbours to dominate the box office. This year, biggies like Vijay’s Varisu, Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy and Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya are in the fray, among others like Arjun Kapoor’s Kuttey, which should, ideally, mean that there will be no space for anyone else.
Yet this year, a couple of teams are taking the plunge nevertheless, one of which is Orchestra, Mysuru!, produced by renowned musician-composer Raghu Dixit. The film, which has Poornachandra Mysore in the lead, has been co-written and directed by debutant Sunil Mysuru, follows an aspiring singer who is hellbent on breaking into the city’s bustling orchestra scene and the heart of the story lies in the struggles that follow him in his pursuits. Poornachandra is also credited as one of the three screenwriters of the film along with Joseph K Raja and Mahadeva Prasad. The film also has Rajalakshmi, Dileep Raj, and several other talents, including real-life orchestra artists, as part of the ensemble.
The film features eight songs, most of which have been written by Daali Dhananjaya, and has him appear in one as well. The actor-producer has shown immense interest in the project, which involves a lot of his friends on the cast and crew, so much so that he’s presenting the film along with KRG Studios in theatres. The film will release on January 12, which KRG Studios is promoting as #SankranthigeOnduKannadaCinema. But before the big day, the team is looking at having its first premiere in the heritage city, where it was shot. Orchestra Mysuru! Will premiere at Mysuru’s DRC Cinemas on January 9, 6.40 pm. The entire team of the film will be in attendance.
