Almost a month after teasing its OTT release, Vineeth Sreenivasan’s latest Malayalam comedy entertainer Oru Jaathi Jathakam has finally dropped on Manorama Max on April 1. The movie, which was expected to begin streaming in March, is helmed by M Mohanan and scripted by Rakesh Mantodi of Godha and Thira fame.
Oru Jaathi Jathakam had released in theatres in the final week of January after Mohanlal’s Thudarum had deferred its theatrical release. The comedy entertainer, which also has Nikhila Vimal, Kayadu Lohar, Indu Thampi and Sayonara Philip, was also expected to release on Prime Video. However, as of now, it’s only streaming in Malayalam on Manorama Max.

In a year that has seen several Malayalam movies fail to recover its budget, Vineeth’s comedy is among the select few that broke even. The film had clashed with Basil Joseph’s critically acclaimed Ponman, which is currently streaming on JioHotstar in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi, and still went on to rake in a decent revenue at the box office.
The movie revolves around a 37-year-old prude named Jayesh, who has a set of criteria for his prospective life partner. Believing that he wouldn’t get married if he crossed 40, he resorts to different ways to lock down a partner, but his prejudices get in the way every time. Finally, when he does manage to find the one for him, another set of challenges crop up. How he navigates through all of this and comes out as a transformed man.
Meanwhile, Vineeth is gearing up for his directorial, which is touted to be an action-thriller. The actor-director also has Dileep’s Bha.Bha.Bha coming up, which also has a cameo by Mohanlal. The film is expected to hit theatres in Onam 2025.
