With a heavy heart, we are saying this! The nominations for Oscars 2022 have just been announced and unfortunately, Suriya's film Jai Bhim did not make it to the 94th Academy Awards. We are sure this would break the hearts of millions like ours, who are ardent fans of the actor and the movie. The hopes and expectations of not only the Indian fans but also others are shattered with this disappointing news.
Earlier today, Jacqueline Coley had also tweeted that she would love to see the Indian film, being nominated for the Award and will be even more ecstatic if it wins it too. This got the hopes of the fans even high. The tweet had immediately gone viral. She had posted, “Jai Bhim” for Best Picture. Trust me on this one,” while replying to Columnist Kyle Buchanan about the films she'd like to see getting nominated.
The film directed by TJ Gnanavel had appeared on the list of the 276 films contesting for Oscars this year. The film was contesting for the Best Picture. However, it lost the nomination for Best Picture to Belfast, Coda, Don't Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of The Dog and West Side Story.
Jai Bhim is a legal drama, starring Suriya and Lijomol Jose with Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh and others in supporting roles. The film is based on true incidents of the communal issue in 1995, which involves a case fought by Justice K. Chandru. The story of the film follows a couple from Irular tribe. After several delays in filming and the release due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the film was finally released on Amazon Prime Video. The film opened to great reviews from critics and the audience alike, who appreciated the film for its performances, story, direction and social message. Many publications have also listed the film as one of the best Tamil and Indian films of 2021. The Suriya-starrer also became the first Indian film to get 9.3/10 score on IMDb, making it currently the highest user-rated movie.
The film is produced by Suriya's and Jyotika's production house 2D Entertainment.
