Oscars 2022: Three Disney princesses Lily James, Naomi Scott and Halle Bailey present best animation feature

The 94th Academy Awards are in full flow at the Dolby Theatre. A night full of stars and noted filmmakers, the stage was occupied by three women, all of whom have played princesses in Disney movies. 

Lily James, Naomi Scott and Halle Bailey all took to the stage to present the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The actors have played princesses in Cinderella, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid respectively. 

The nominations for the category included Encanto, Luca, Flee, The Mitchells vs. The Machines and Raya and the Last Dragon. Encanto directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush eventually won the Oscars. 

Lily James played the titular character in the 2015 film, Cinderella. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the movie also stars Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, and Stellan Skarsgård among others. 

Naomi Scott played Princess Jasmine in the 2019 version of Aladdin. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the movie also stars Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar and Navid Negahban as The Sultan. 

Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel in Disney’s latest live action film adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The movie is expected to be available for release in May 2023. Directed by Rob Marshall, the movie also stars Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy and Javier Bardem among others. 

The 94th Academy Awards is currently available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
