The Oscars 2023 is set to be a star-studded affair yet again with various filmmakers and actors from Hollywood and across the globe vying for a coveted Academy Award. On this episode of List hai toh hit hai we take a look at Hollywood actors who are yet to win an Academy Award.

Edward Norton

Edward Norton has delivered jaw-dropping performances in some of the most iconic films such as Fight Club, American History X, Birdman, and Primal Fear. His inimitable talent of slipping into a range of characters such as a sociopath to one afflicted by Dissociative identity disorder has crafted memorable characters who’ve elevated beyond the films they were portrayed in.
And it should come as a shock to anyone familiar with his body of work that Norton is yet to win an Oscar despite being nominated thrice for Birdman, American History X and Primal Fear.

Ralph Fiennes

A Nazi war criminal, a dark wizard, an MI6 agent, a hopeless romantic, or even a mild-mannered concierge – these are some of the iconic roles English actor Ralph Fiennes has essayed to near perfection. But despite two nominations, the revered actor is yet to deliver an acceptance speech at the Oscars. While his turn in last year’s The Menu may not bag an Oscar this year, entirely snubbing Fiennes over the years is surely something that should be brought to the Academy’s attention.

Willem Dafoe

If ever there is an actor who was born to win an Oscar, it has to be the legendary Willem Dafoe. The actor has four nominations to his name but has never bagged an Oscar. The biggest shocker, however, is the fact that he didn’t even receive a nomination for his riveting performance in Robert Eggers’ 2019 film The Lighthouse.

Tom Cruise

One cannot deny Tom Cruise’s dedication to his craft. Scientology aside, the actor redefines himself and has managed to pull blockbuster hits over decades and that is no mean feat.

Whether it’s diving from a plane or mounting some of the tallest man-made structures in the world, Cruise continues to perform death-defying stunts to this date, despite being only 60 years young. And to his credit, Cruise has delivered Oscar-worthy performances in several films such as Jerry Maguire, Born on the Fourth of July, Mongolia, Eyes Wide Shut, and The Last Samurai. But you’ll be shocked to know that the Hollywood superstar has failed to impress the Academy despite bagging four nominations in the past.

Clint Eastwood

The biggest shocker on the list is arguably the legendary Clint Eastwood. One might even assume that the actor/filmmaker, who is regarded as Hollywood royalty, has a few Oscars in the bag already. While it is true to an extent considering he has won four in total, none of them have been for his acting.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has essayed several colourful characters over the course of his celebrated career. And for several years Depp and Leonardo Di Caprio always made the list of actors who were unfairly snubbed at the Oscars. But now that Di Caprio has finally won his elusive Oscar, Depp continues to wait for his moment of glory. Perhaps, his court trials could be entered in the non-fiction category?

Samuel L. Jackson

While most genZ audiences will only associate Samuel L Jackson for his role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the veteran star has been playing iconic characters for decades, most notably in Quentin Tarantino’s films. But despite Jackson’s wide range as an actor, he is yet to take home an Oscar, despite earning a nomination for the role of Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction.

Jim Carrey

The legendary comedian Jim Carrey has depicted some of the most iconic characters on the silver screen. While most associate the actor with his hilarious comic screen avatars, the actor has pulled some nuanced turns in a range of characters. Particularly, his performances in films such as Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind were surely Oscar-worthy. So it’s certainly baffling that this talented veteran is yet to be recognised by the Academy.

Well that's all the time we got for this episode, until the next one it's your host Nikhil signing out.
