Oscars 2023: Incredibly talented actresses who haven't won an Oscar

The Oscars 2023 winners have been announced. The sci-fi action drama Everything Everywhere All at Once bagged seven Oscars this year, including top honours such as Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh and Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis. This marked the first Oscar win for both actresses and they surely were the most deserving recipients from the list of nominees. But it’s not always that the Academy has recognised and honoured the most deserving actresses over the years. For today’s List hai toh hit hai, let’s take a look at some critically-acclaimed actresses who impressed us with their talent but are yet to pick up their first Academy Award.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams has established herself as one of the most reliable actors in Hollywood, capable of driving a project entirely on her own. Over the years, she has slipped into a range of characters effortlessly and has won over 70 awards in her career, none of which have been an Oscar. In her career, she has received 6 Oscar nominations but is yet to bag her first win. Adams deserved to take home an Oscar at least for the 2014 film American Hustle.

Helena Bonham Carter

British actress, Helena Bonham Carter, has carved a reputation for essaying eccentric characters over the years to great effect. However, she also has proven time and again that she can slip into more sophisticated characters with the same conviction. Some of these performances certainly deserved to be recognised by the Academy, and despite two nominations, including her iconic turn in David Fincher’s Fight Club, she is yet to take home an Oscar.

Michelle Williams

Arguably the most shocking name on this list is The Fabelmans star, Michelle Williams. The five-time Oscar nominee has garnered over 50 awards in her three-decades-long career. It’s incredible that the actress failed to win even for her jaw-dropping performance as Cindy in the 2010 tragic romantic drama Blue Valentine.

Michelle Pfeiffer

Hollywood veteran Michelle Pfeiffer is widely revered as one of the greatest actresses of our time. The star, who recently appeared in the Marvel film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is yet to bag an Oscar despite managing a couple of nominations in her illustrious career. While it’s difficult to pick our favourite Pfeiffer flick, it’s almost incomprehensible as to why Pfeiffer was overlooked for her turn in the 1988 romantic drama Dangerous Liaisons.

Winona Ryder

Winona Ryder was one of the biggest names in Hollywood in the 90s. Even though her career stalled for a brief period, she made a triumphant return with the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. But despite two Oscar nominations, this 90s superstar is yet to win at the Academy Awards. Her performance in films such as The Age of Innocence, Little Women, and the Ben Stiller directorial comedy Reality Bites were all Oscar-worthy performances. But the Academy is yet to consider Ryder to be deserving of an Oscar.

Margot Robbie

Aussie actress Margot Robbie has become one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood. She burst onto the scene in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street and has essayed the lead in several blockbuster hits since. She has also essayed nuanced roles in films such as Bombshell and I,Tonya, which earned her Oscar nominations but lost out on both occasions.

Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams made her breakthrough in the hit teen comedy Mean Girls as the iconic antagonist Regina George. Her popularity surged even more when she played the lead in the much-revered romantic drama The Notebook. She has played characters in multiple genres since, but her turn as Sacha Pfeiffer in Spotlight was certainly one that deserved to be recognised by the Academy for an Oscar. But McAdams is yet to win one.

Scarlett Johansson

Long before she became widely recognised as the superhero Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scarlett Johansson boasted a stellar filmography. More recently, she starred in critically-acclaimed films such as Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, in two Oscar-worthy roles. More notably, she also pulled compelling turns in films such as Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation and the romcom In Good Company. So it’s really shocking to note that Johansson is yet to win an Oscar.

Well that's all the time we got for today’s episode, until the next time it's your host Nikhil signing out.
