The stage is set and the red carpet is laid. In a few hours, the 95th Academy Awards will begin. This year, there are three Indian nominations. Besides RRR’s Naatu Naatu’s nomination in the Original Song category, Kartiki Gonsalves’ The Elephant Whisperers is nominated in the Documentary Short Film category and Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes is competing in the Documentary Feature Film category. 

Recently, in an interview with Anandabazar Patrika, Shaunak said that his team did what they could. “It is a huge platform. The other nominated documentaries are also fascinating. We are enjoying every moment here,” he said. 

All That Breathes delves into the lives of two brothers, Nadim and Saud, who run a hospital for kites that fall from Delhi sky due to pollution. The documentary captures the human-animal relationship in urban space. 

On February 7, 2023, the documentary was dropped on HBO. Hours after it had its digital premiere. Priyanka Chopra roots for the documentary. On her Instagram story, she congratulated the entire team of the documentary. 

Priyanka shared the poster of the film and wrote, “A story that gives a voice to ‘All That Breathes’ – what a magical movie.” She further added, “Congratulations to the entire team, and all the best! Let’s bring the Oscar home… (sic).” It is not just Priyanka Chopra, American director, comedian Judd Apatow too shared a note of appreciation on social media. “Incredible film. Beautiful and a must-watch!” he wrote. 

The documentary won the L’Oeil d’Or (Golden Eye) award for best documentary at the 75th Cannes Film Festival this year.
