Netflix is known to house some of the biggest and most widely recognised titles from across the world but its defined licensing agreements do come in the way every now and then. Every month, the streamer is obligated to bid farewell to a select few films and TV shows and the month of May (2023), too, will see multiple films and TV shows from across the world leaving the platform.
However, for the sake of our convenience, Netflix prompts us with a “Last day to watch on Netflix” reminder on the details page of the TV show or movie and we have managed to put together a list of top Hollywood films that are said to exit the streamer. So, if you are arriving on this page for the first time, be sure to scroll down to spot the nearing expiry date and check out the title mentioned without fail. And this list, mind you, includes superstars like Tom Cruise, Matt Damon and many more.
Jumanji: The Next Level (May 9)
The 2019 fantasy adventure starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas and others is a follow-up to the 2017 film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and the fourth instalment of the Jumanji franchise. A major commercial success, the film also stars Awkwafina, Danny Glover and Danny DeVito.
The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Legacy (May 15)
The cinematic adaptations of Robert Ludlum's iconic novels took the world by a huge surprise and arguably redefined how action was conceived in Hollywood. Matt Damon took on the role of Jason Bourne, a most skilful but "damaged" assassin for the CIA, in 2002 and starred in the first three instalments of the franchise (including The Bourne Ultimatum) and the 2016 film Jason Bourne. The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, the first two parts of the series, are set to leave Netflix on May 15 along with The Bourne Legacy, which stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.
Hulk (May 15)
Taiwanese legendary filmmaker Ang Lee tried his hand at a superhero film in 2003 when he directed Eric Bana in Hulk. The film essentially explores the origins of Bruce Banner, a research scientist who is exposed to extreme gamma radiation levels to become an enormous green monster every time he is enraged. Jennifer Connelly and Nick Nolte, too, star in the film
Johnny English Reborn (May 15)
The bumbling spy returns to service from a Tibetan monastery to investigate the assassination plot of the Chinese Premier during talks with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The legendary Rowan Atkinson reprises the role of Johnny English with Gillian Anderson, Dominic West, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Kaluuya and others, too, part of the cast.
Jack Reacher (May 22)
Lee Child's best-selling Jack Reacher novels were brought to life when the Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise was cast in the titular role. Cruise and his frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie reunited for the cinematic adaptation of Child's One Shot novel of the series which has the former Military Police Officer Reacher investigating a rather alluring mystery. Action and thrills galore, Jack Reacher also stars Rosamund Pike, David Oyelowo and Werner Herzog.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (May 22)
Tom Cruise reunited with his The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick for the second iteration of the Jack Reacher film series with Cobie Smulders joining the cast to play the role of Major Susan Turner. When Major Turner is arrested for treason ex-investigator Jack Reacher returns to his old military headquarters to prove her innocence and inadvertently exposes a shocking conspiracy.
Coming to America (May 29)
One of Eddie Murphy's most loved outings, Coming to America is a romantic comedy about about an African prince, Akeem, who travels to America to find true love and escape his arranged marriage. Akeem and his loyal friend Semmi pose as poor immigrants and take up jobs at a fast food restaurant in Queens, where Akeem meets and falls in love with Lisa, the boss's daughter. What happens when Akeem's secret is eventually revealed?
