Viewers frequently wait for the OTT release of films they would rather not see in a theatre. Up to 209 Malayalam films, excluding recent ones like Neru and films slated to hit the big screen on December 29, released this year. Some movies had an instant release on these digital platforms after their theatrical run, while others left film enthusiasts waiting. Here is a list of Malayalam films in 2023 that did not make it onto OTT platforms yet.
Bandra
The story revolves around an aspiring filmmaker named Sakshi's investigation into Bollywood actress Tara Janaki's suicide. As she looks into it, she learns about Tara's relationship with Alan Alexander Dominic, a businessman and former gangster who fought to protect Tara when the Bombay underworld came for her. Fans of Dileep in particular had high hopes for Arun Gopy's Bandra, but the film fell short of their expectations following its theatrical release.
Ramachandra Boss & Co
Nivin Pauly-starrer Ramachandra Boss & Co hit the theatres in Onam, along with King of Kotha and RDX: Robert Dony Xavier. While King of Kotha was released on Disney+ Hotstar and RDX: Robert Dony Xavier on Netflix in September, the heist action-comedy film did not meet with much success with viewers or make it onto any streaming platforms yet.
Otta
Resul Pookutty's directorial debut, Otta, focuses on Hari and Ben, two friends whose family problems force them to flee from their houses. Despite its slow pacing, the film's poignant moments and performances won over the audience. This film, which came out on October 27, stars Asif Ali, Arjun Ashokan, Indrans, Sathyaraj, Rohini, and Renji Panicker.
O Baby
With its portrayal of social oppression and captivating performances, Rajan Pramod's O Baby garnered positive reviews from viewers when it was released in theatres in June. However, the film is still not available on any OTT platforms. Dileesh Pothan, Raghunath Paleri, Haniya Nafisa, Devadath V S and Vishnu Agasthya played prominent roles in this movie.
Vela
The story of two police officers looking into the disappearance of a boy is told in this crime-action thriller. The film, which was released in November, features Shane Nigam, Sunny Wayne, Sidharth Bharathan, and Aditi Balan as lead characters. Despite a few minor issues, it was able to keep the audience intrigued in theatres.
Kunjamminis Hospital
Kunjamminis Hospital is a fantasy horror comedy film that revolves around a refurbished hospital that is haunted by the ghosts of patients who passed away there previously. The film’s main cast includes Indrajith Sukumaran, Nyla Usha, Prakash Raj, Baburaj, Sarayu Mohan, Mallika Sukumaran, and Harisree Ashokan.
