OTTplay Awards 2022: Know Your Winners: Jameel Khan wins Best Actor in a Comic Role (Series) for Gullak 3

OTT platforms have opened a vast gate for numerous types of content. With that, it has also given a chance to multiple actors to showcase their talent to a huge audience through the digital platform. Gullak is one such project that gathered immense praise and love from the viewers and so the cast of the series. Jameel Khan received his well-deserved award in a comic role for the family entertainer series on SonyLIV. The ace actor accepted the honour with an emotional speech at the recently held OTTplay Awards and Conclave 2022.

The winning speech

Jameel stepped on the stage to receive his accolade with a heartfelt speech. He mentioned, "This is special. Truly humbling. After so many years in the industry working hard. This is special. Thank you and I would like to take this award for my entire team of Gullak, which has given me a new lease of life and I cannot thank them enough and this OTTplay, this OTT world, it is so inspiring and so democratising and it is wonderful. Thank you, HT. Thank you so much."

About the actor

Born in a small town of India, the talented actor forayed into acting with multiple small and supporting roles in films like the Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji starrer Chalte Chalte, the Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu starrer Cheeni Kum and Rock On!! starring Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal among others.

Later, in 2012, he gain recognition with his significant role in both the parts of Gangs of Wasseypur, which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chaddha and Manoj Bajpayee among others.

He was nominated for Screen Awards in the category of Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Gangs of Wasseypur.

The talented actor has also given a few notable performances in multiple Bollywood films including the Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela and Pagglait starring Sanya Malhotra with Ashutosh Rana, Shruti Sharma and Raghubir Yadav in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, from 2019 to the present, Jameel has been receiving immense praise and love from the audience as well as critics for SonyLIV's Gullak.

Apart from the OTTplay awards, he has also bagged the award for Gullak's latest instalment in 2021 Filmfare OTT Awards for Best Actor (Comedy Series).

About the show

Created by Shreyansh Pandey, the family entertainer series is made under The Viral Fever. Gullak focuses on Santosh Mishra (essayed by Jameel Khan) and his nuclear family of four including him, his wife Shanti Mishra (Geetanjali Kulkarni), and his two sons Anand "Annu" Mishra and Aman Mishra (played by Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Harsh Mayar respectively). 

The TVF original series talks about the day-to-day issues, problems and celebrations of a lower-middle-class family. Sunita Rajwar also plays a pivotal character in the show.

Developments of Gullak 4

Reportedly, the highly anticipated show is at its scripting stage and will soon be on floors to make it to the OTT platform for its lovely audience. When asked the same to Jameel, he mentioned that it will be out soon.
