Bollywood actor-host Neha Dhupia is the perfect blend of style and talent, and she proved her mettle as a performer (yet again) through her gripping act in A Thursday for which she was recently awarded the Best Supporting Actor (Female) in a Film trophy at the OTTplay Awards 2022 in Mumbai.

She played the role of ACP Catherine aka Cathy in the film. The movie starred Yami Gautam and Atul Kulkarni in the lead roles.

Filmmaker Milap Zaveri presented the award to Neha, who recalled her emotional and strong journey while shooting the movie. She thanked the two men in her life – her husband Angad Bedi and their son, Guriq.

ABOUT THE WINNER

At the age of 22, neha Dhupia was crowned Miss India in the year 2002 and she went on to represent the country at the coveted Miss Universe pageant where she was amongst the Top 10 finalists. 

Dhupia launched her acting career with a play in New Delhi called Graffiti, before appearing in a music video for Indipop band Euphoria.

As a model, she would regularly do ad campaigns and walked the ramp for several fashion designers such as Rohit Bal, amongst many others. 

Her Bollywood debut was with the film Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003), and has worked in films like Julie (2004), Sheesha (2005), Kyaa Kool Hai Hum (2005), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Dus Kahaniyaan (2007), to name a few. 

A Thursday is not her first gig as a supporting actor, Dhupia has appeared in supporting roles in multiple films in the past including Chup Chup Ke (2006), Ek Chalis Ki Last Local (2007), Mithya (2008), Maharathi (2008), Singh Is Kinng (2008)[8] and Dasvidaniya (2008). 

ACCOLADES

Neha Dhupia won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Tumhari Sulu (2017) at the Screen Awards, and was nominated in the same category at the International Indian Film Academy Award in 2018. She was also nominated for the same at the Zee Cine Awards 2018.

In 2010, she was nominated for best Supporting Actress at the Screen awards for her act in Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi? (2009). Her other nominations include Best Actress for Phas Gaye Re Obama (2010) as the Searchlight Award at the Stardust Awards, Best Supporting Actress for Singh Is Kinng (2008) Reader's Choice and Superstar of Tomorrow - Female Rakht (2004) again at the Stardust Awards. 

LESSER KNOWN FACTS ABOUT THE ACTRESS

She is a navy kid and her father Commander Pradip Singh Dhupia has served in the Indian Navy. She graduated from Jesus and Mary College in New Delhi, with honours in History.

After the Miss Universe contest in 2002, the actress wanted to pursue a career in the Indian Foreign Service, but turned chose showbiz instead.

In 2016, Dhupia came up with her own celebrity interview-based podcast called #NoFilterNeha on the Indian music app Saavn. Because of the frankness of the show, she had over 2.3 million listeners. 

Dhupia has run in the Mumbai Marathon to support the Concern India Foundation and helped to raise over 5 lakhs, and has also helped to raise money for the 2011 Sikkim earthquake victims.

Neha Dhupia has worked in Punjabi, Telugu and Malayalam films, and has been serving as a judge in reality TV show MTV Roadies since Season 14.

ABOUT HER WIN AT THE OTTPLAY AWARDS 2022

“I’m going to take an extra minute because this one is special. When we started filming, things were very different. Halfway through production (or pre-production), we (I and Angad Bedi) realized that I was having a baby,” Neha revealed on stage right after she had accepted her award at the OTTplay Awards 2022.

The actress further shared, “Every two weeks, I was just getting more and more pregnant. Most importantly, I feel great to have got this opportunity at a time when women in business and worldwide cinema are doing so well.”

She spoke of a miracle that took place on the sets. “We finished dubbing on October 2 and my baby boy arrived on 3rd. So this one’s for him,” Neha recalled.

Summing it up, the actress said, “There are a lot of people I want to thank. Just when I thought that I wouldn’t be able to go ahead with a character because things were changing in my personal life. Many people ensured that this opportunity was not taken away from me.”

Neha Dhupia has opened two businesses called Wear Big Girl and Freedom To Feed and can be seen promoting her brands on her social accounts, along with her paid brand partnerships.
