There are very few directors who can act well and vice versa, Satish Kaushik is definitely one of them.
The actor-turned-filmmaker, who is known for his range and comic timing, played the role of Bhure in the Netflix Original that recently saw him bagging the Best Supporting Actor (Male) in a Film.
ABOUT THE WINNER
Satish Kaushik is a veteran Indian actor and filmmaker who has graduated from two of the most prestigious colleges in India fdor acting and film studies: National School of Drama and Film and Television Institute of India.
He is known for his classic acts in popular films like Mr. India, Deewana Mastana, Ram Lakhan, Saajan Chale Sasural, among many others.
As a director, his debut project was Sridevi's Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, followed by Prem, but he tasted commerical success with his third outing as a director: Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain in 1999. He has also directed films such as Vaada and Teree Sang, which is a new-age film about teen pregnancy.
One of his most popular films as a director is Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla's Tere Naam. It was reported that he will soon be making a sequel to that film.
Satish Kaushik has also written dialogues for films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.

Satish Kaushik has been niminated for Best Director for Tere Naam (2003) at the Awards of the International Indian Film Academy in 2004, he has also won the Best Comic Actor for Pardesi Babu (1998) at the Bollywood Awards, he has also won the Best Supporting Actor for Kaagaz (2021) at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival in 2022.
He has three Filmfare wins so far: Best Director for Tere Naam (2003), Best Comic Actor for Saajan Chale Sasural (1996) and Best Comic Actor for Ram Lakhan (1989). He has also won the Filmfare OTT Awards for Best Supporting Actor: Web Original Film for Kaagaz (2021) this year.
At the Zee Cine Awards in 2017, he was nominated for Best Comic Actor Udta Punjab (2016).
LESSER KNOWN FACTS ABOUT THE ACTOR
He is married to Shashi Kaushik for the last three decades and the couple had to go through the heartbreak of losing their son in 1996, Shanu Kaushik, when he just two years old. In 2012, the couple welcomed their daughter Vanshika through a surrogate mother.
Satish Kaushik is keen on promoting the Haryanvi film industry and is set to make five films in and around that region.
In 2007 Kaushik and his National School of Drama batchmate, Anupam Kher, launched a new film company called Karol Bagh Productions. Their first film, Teree Sang, was directed by Satish Kaushik,, and dealth with the sensitive issue of teen pregnancy. Ruslaan Mumtaz and Sheena Shahabadi in leading roles.
ABOUT HIS WIN AT THE OTTPLAY AWARDS 2022
Satish Kaushik was presented the award by actor Vineet Kumar Singh, who gave a beautiful monologue about how good actors had qualities similar to water, seamlessly blending into their characters like the liquid. After Satish accepted the award, host Maniesh Paul touched the veteran actor’s feet. When Satish remarked that Maniesh never hugs him, the host humbly said that he needed to work much more harder to consider himself worthy of the honour.
In his acceptance speech, Satish thanked HT OTTplay Awards for the award and went on “ Really everyone said that they’re bringing whole India together, all the languages, on one platform. OTT is a great platform for all the great actors, technicians, writers. Aur hum jaise logo keliye jo pata nahin barson se acting karte aa rahe hain. You know, Calendar, Pappu Pager. Lekin aaj kal waisi acting chalti nahin hain. Aajkal bahut real acting chalti hain. Toh apne aap ko adapt karna, apne aap ko reinvent karna, OTT ki vajah se hua ahin”.
UPCOMING PROJECTS
As an actor, veteran actor Satish Kaushik will soon be seen in Emergency alongside Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher and Shreyas Talpade. He also has Chhatriwali with Rakul Preet and Sumeet Vyas as well as the The Last Show again with Anupam Kher and Vardhan Puri.
As a director, satish Kaushik will be making a sequel to his 2003 hit Tere Naam.
