Actor Kishore was at the inaugural edition of the OTTplay Awards 2022 in Mumbai on Saturday evening. The actor, who flew in from Chennai, where he is shooting for a Tamil web series, was among the early birds on the purple carpet and stayed for the entire duration of the ceremony, to applaud and support all the winners.

A winner himself, Kishore took home the Best Actor in a Negative Role for She Season 2. When he was called on stage to receive his award, Kishore noticed that at the table just ahead was the team of the Hindi series Family Man, including makers Raj and DK and lead actor Manoj Bajpayee. Kishore was a major character in season one of the series, playing the trigger-happy cop Imran Pasha. Before taking the stage, Kishore stopped by and greeted Raj and DK, as well as Manoj, and only then proceeded to collect his award.

Announcing the winner, Jai Bhim director TJ Gnanavel said that the award goes to his favourite actor and then called Kishore. “I don’t know if I deserve this award, but I definitely believe that my team deserves this. I am taking this on their behalf. Thanks to my writer Imtiaz Ali, who believed that I fit into the role that he wrote. Thanks to Arif Ali ji who directed the show and thanks to my ‘She’, Aditi (Pohankar),” he said.

Kishore, who has two releases on September 30, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan -Part 1, and Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, spent a bulk of the evening with the latter, who was also at the event and received an award for Pioneering Contributions to New Wave Cinema. Rishab’s film is a man vs man and man vs nature story and pits him against Kishore, who plays a forest officer.
