Darlings, the Netflix film that was released in 2022, saw the collaboration of a talented team. The film marked the directorial debut of Jasmeet K. Reen and also marked Alia Bhatt's debut as a producer. The actor played the lead role in the film alongside Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew. Now, it comes as no surprise that Darlings has won the Best Film Award at the OTTplay Awards 2023.

The second edition of the prestigious award held today in Mumbai saw Jasmeet take home the coveted trophy for her brilliant dark comedy film set against the backdrop of domestic abuse. The filmmaker co-wrote Darlings with Parveez Sheikh.

While receiving the award, the filmmaker-writer delivered her winning speech and said, "Darlings is getting more love than I ever imagined. Thank you so much. It is my first film and I never imagined it would connect so well."

About Darlings:

In the film, Badru (Alia Bhatt) believes that if her husband (Vijay Varma) stops drinking, he will change for the better. When his temper finally boils over, however, she and her mother (Shefali Shah) take brave, if inept, action to exact their vengeance.

Shah Rukh Khan's home banner, Red Chillies Entertainment, co-produced the film with Alia Bhatt's Eternal Sunshine Productions.

According to a statement sent to the BBC by the streaming service, Darlings had the highest global opening for a non-English Indian film, with viewers clocking in over 10 million hours in its first weekend.

About the OTTPlay Awards:

The Danube OTTplay Awards 2023 were co-presented by Dabur Chyawanprash and driven by Volkswagen, with Colors Infinity being the telecast partner.
