OTTplay Awards 2025: Abishek Kumar wins Breakthrough Performance (Male) for Thalaivettiyan Paalayam

Abishek Kumar bagged the Breakthrough Performance (Male) awards for his work in the Tamil web series Thalaivettiyan Paalayam. The award was conferred at the third edition of OTTplay Award 2025, which was held in Mumbai on March 22.

Abishek Kumar, who is a known face in the stand-up comedy circle, starred in the lead role in Tamil web series Thalaivettiyan Paalayam, a remake of Hindi series Panchayat. Abishek played the role of a city-bread young officer who is stationed at a remote village that comes with a barrage of problems. Presented in a comical style, the series writer by Balakumaran Murugesan and directed by Naga for Amazon Prime Video.

Abishek Kumar was presented the award by Sandeep Rao at the show, that was co-hosted by Aparshakti Khurana and Kubra Sait. Abishek had a fun banter on stage as he joked how Aparshakti's hilarious pun about "Priya funny" led to Priyamani's exit later. While receiving the honours, Abishek said, "Thank you so much everyone. Mam Kubra, I m a huge fan of 'Danish'. For those who are thinking why I am here, 'I acted in the official Tamil remake of Panchayat. I would like to thank the entire TVF team and my directors. Thanks to OTTplay for making this happen." He also expressed gratitude to his family by sharing a few words in Tamil. 

OTTplay Awards 2025 also saw the who’s who of Indian OTT space turn up, celebrating the theme - “One Nation, One Award”. Imtiaz Ali, Jyothika, Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher and others were also honoured at the award function, which had celebs from film industries including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
