OTTplay Awards 2025: Avinash Tiwary Wins Breakthrough Performance for The Mehta Boys

The much-loved star Avinash Tiwary, well-known for Laila Majnu, has had a stellar couple of years on streaming as well as the big screen in India. The actor was last seen in The Mehta Boys, where he starred alongside Boman Irani, who also directed the Amazon Prime Video original movie. Turns out, Avinash has now won the trophy for Breakthrough Performance (Male) at the third edition of the OTTplay Awards 2025, which was held in Mumbai on March 22, 2025. This marks Avinash’s first victory at the OTTplay Awards, and the actor shined as he walked onto the stage to accept the honor and the trophy.

For the unversed, The Mehta Boys is about a father-son duo who are not on great terms. The clash of ideas and ideologies has created a rift between them. The movie skillfully explores what it means to be a father and a son. Written and directed by Boman Irani, the movie was highly praised by critics, and Avinash’s performance was especially loved by all. The actor has been showcasing various shades of his talent over the past couple of years, and The Mehta Boys is one of his best performances to date.

At the OTTplay Awards 2025, while talking about winning the trophy, the actor said, “Thank you OTTplay Awards. I should acknowledge Alex who wrote the film with Boman Irani who directed the film, spent 8-9 years writing the film. Thank you so much for the award."

Avinash Tiwary, who was last seen in The Mehta Boys, will next be seen in Imtiaz Ali’s show O Saathi Rey alongside Aditi Rao Hydari and Arjun Rampal. The Netflix-backed web series is currently one of the most anticipated projects in India. The show recently went on floors. Meanwhile, the actor also has some very interesting projects in the pipeline.
