The country has been witnessing the beautiful moments from the OTTplay Awards 2025, which took place on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The night, which turned out to be the highlight of the month, honoured talent from across the country and was nothing short of a star-studded affair. However, one of the most inspiring highlights of the evening was Girls Will Be Girls and All We Imagine As Light actor Kani Kusruti, who delivered the most motivational winning speech of the night. The actor won the trophy for Versatile Performer of the Year (Female) and spoke about how actors are often typecast, leaving them no room to prove their versatility. Kani Kusruti on Getting Typecast
Kani Kusruti has become one of the most prominent names of the year. She won the award at the OTTplay Awards 2025 for her performances in Girls Will Be Girls, Poacher, Nagendran’s Honeymoon, and Thalaimal Seyalagam. While accepting her trophy, she emphasized the fact that every actor is versatile and is constantly seeking new opportunities. “Thank you, OTTplay Awards, for the recognition. I think all actors—all of us—are versatile. It's just that sometimes we do not get the opportunities to play different parts. Kani further added,“And all the actors I know have an amazing range, and I just hope all of us get different parts so that we can showcase our versatility. I was just fortunate to have some of these roles in the last two years, where some creators approached me, and I got to explore different characters. Generally, I also get typecast quite a lot. I thank all my directors who have given me these opportunities, and I hope all my fellow actors get such chances as well. I dedicate this to all of us actors who deserve and should get the opportunity to do so.”
