OTTplay Awards 2025: Kani Kusruti wins Versatile Performer of the Year (Female)

Kani Kusruti, who shot to global fame after All We Imagine as Light scripted history at Cannes last year, was a constant presence in the digital space too, elevating several movies and series with her performance. The Biriyaani actress has won the Versatile Performer of the Year (Female) the OTTplay Awards 2025, which was held in Mumbai on March 22.  She was honoured with the award for her performance in Girls Will Be Girls and Poacher (Prime Video), Thalaimai Seyalagam (ZEE5), and Nagendran's Honeymoons (JioHotstar).

In Girls Will Be Girls, Kani was seen as Anila, the mother of a teenager Mira. Kani appeared as DFO Dina in Poacher, while she played Durga in the Tamil political thriller Thalaimai Seyalagam. Kani Kusruti played Thankam, fifth wife of Nagendran in the Malayalam series Nagendran's Honeymoons.

After receiving her award from Eijaz Khan at the show, Kani thanked OTTplay and said, "All actors are versatile but we tend to get typecasted. We all know we are versatile. We're just fortunate that I could do a different part. I'm thankful and hope everybody gets the opportunity to do more such roles..”

Kani was also a part of Netflix series Killer Soup last year.

The third edition of the OTTplay Awards, hosted by Aparshakti Khurana and Kubra Sait, was held in Mumbai on March 22, 2025, and saw the who’s who of Indian OTT space turn up.

Sriimurali, Divya Dutta and The Roshans were also honoured at the award function, which had celebs from film industries including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.
