OTTplay Awards 2025: Priya Mani wins Best Actor in a Comedy for Bhamakalapam

Priya Mani Raj, known professionally as Priyamani, has been making fans stunned with her performances for over two decades now. The actress was proudly honoured with the Nation Film Award for the 2007 Tamil film, Paruthiveeran. Today, on March 22, 2025, the 40-year-old actress bagged Best Actor in a Comedy accolade for her Telugu film, Bhamakalapam 2, at the third edition of OTTplay Awards.

Released in February 2024, Bhamakalapam 2 is the sequel to the 2022 film, Bhamakalapam. Interestingly, both the Telugu thriller drama films are streaming on Aha, which OTTplay Premium subscribers will be able to watch easily.

While the first Telugu film follows the story of Anupama, a curious housewife, who shares her passion for cooking through her online food blog, is unexpectedly drawn into a murder investigation when she stumbles upon the crime scene. As a key witness her testimony becomes crucial in helping the authorities solve the case.

The sequel, Bhamakalapam 2 begins with the introduction of a wealthy and influential hotelier, who turns Anupama's life upside down, prompting her to concoct a bold plan for revenge. She assembles a team of misfits, each with their own unique skills, to execute a daring heist at the hotelier's luxurious hotel, using a high-profile culinary competition as the perfect cover.

Priyamani, who was presented the award by Saurav Sachdeva at the show that was hosted by Aparshakti Khurana and Kubra Sait, said, "This is the first time I'm getting an award that too for a comedy drama. Thank you HT and OTTplay for honouring me with thai award today."

Back in February 2024, in an interview, Priyamani stated that working in a film like Bhamakalapam 2 is certainly not as emotionally and physically demanding as her Nation Award-winning film, Paruthiveeran. She shared that there's always something to learn from every project. She also shared that she's proud of being trained by an old-school filmmaker.

OTTplay Awards 2025 also saw the who's who of Indian's OTT space turn up, celebrating the theme - 'One Nation, One Award.' Rakesh Roshan, Jyothika and many others were also honoured at the shimmering award event, which has held from film industries including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
