Actor and director Basil Joseph, who was recently seen in Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey and Mukundan Unni Associates - has been honoured with the Inspiring Filmmaker of the Year award at the prestigious OTTplay Changemakers Awards 2023 tonight. The award was presented by Soundarya Sharma. The glittery award ceremony took place at JW Marriott (Juhu), Mumbai, which was attended by the who’s who of the Indian film fraternity.

Basil Joseph, who began his career in films as an assistant director to Vineeth Sreenivasan in his third directorial venture Thira (2013), has come a long way. He soon made his directorial debut with Kunjiramayanam and later made Godha, and Minnal Murali, the first Superhero film in Malayalam, which starred Tovino Thomas as the homegrown Superhero. He also tested waters on the acting front with a slew of cameos and supporting roles in films. He became a household name with Vipin Das's in Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey. The film, which is a satire on gender stereotypes, had Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran in the lead, and became a massive hit among the audience.

The ‘Inspiring Filmmaker of the Year’ award is conferred on him in recognition of the remarkable characters that he has directed and played in the past year. The ‘OTTplay Changemakers Awards 2023’ intend to honour and celebrate the groundbreakers and trendsetters of the entertainment industry. With Indian cinema on the cusp of remarkable transitions, it’s pertinent to honour and boost the confidence of those young minds that are bringing about the change. It’s the first edition of the awards ceremony.
