Actor Rohit Saraf - who is now a well-known face on OTT, thanks to Akarsh Khurana and Nipun Dharmadhikari’s coming-of-age romantic drama web series Mismatched, streaming on Netflix - has bagged the ‘Most Loved Star on Social Media’ award at the prestigious OTTplay Changemakers Awards 2023 tonight. The glittery award ceremony - which took place at JW Marriott (Juhu), Mumbai - which was attended by the who’s who of the Indian film fraternity.

After starting his acting career in television, Rohit made his film debut in 2016 with a supporting role in Dear Zindagi. He then acted in the Norwegian film What Will People Say, comedy-drama Hichki, the Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim starrer biographical romantic comedy-drama The Sky Is Pink, black comedy Ludo and most recently in the neo-noir action thriller film Vikram Vedha, starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan.

The ‘Most Loved Star on Social Media’ award is conferred on Rohit in recognition of his popularity online. In recent times, the actor has found a strong base in showbiz, even being fondly referred to as the ‘national crush’. Commenting on being stereotyped, Rohit once said that he understands the reason behind it. According to him, it’s justified because filmmakers don’t see him as somebody who can play a heartland part yet. It is also because of the way he looks, speaks and carries himself - all of these are very urban, he elaborated.

The ‘OTTplay Changemakers Awards 2023’ intend to honour and celebrate the groundbreakers and trendsetters of the entertainment industry. With Indian cinema on the cusp of remarkable transitions, it’s pertinent to honour and boost the confidence of those young minds that are bringing about the change. It’s the first edition of the awards ceremony.
