Welcome to OTTplay Lost and Found, one podcast that gives you all the info about critically acclaimed films and shows but lesser-known. I'm your host Nikhil.

Praktan, 2016 Bengali film, helmed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, was a much-anticipated release within the Calcutta cinema circles, especially since it brought together two fan-favorites and veteran Tollywood actors, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta. Almost after a decade and a half of their last on-screen pairing, Praktan, as the name suggests, saw them as former partners, who suddenly encounter each other during a train journey.

Ujaan Mukherjee (played by Chatterjee) and Sudipa (played by Sengupta), cross paths at junctures of their lives, which make them take stock of their actions and reflect on where they went wrong. But the filmmakers weaved this narrative with a parallel one of Sudipa and Malini (Aparajita Adhya), Ujaan’s present wife. Homely and simplistic, Malini is affable and easily moved by the slightest of worries. She is adorable, but gullible, believing that people are always worthy of a second chance. When Sudipa realizes she is Ujaan’s current wife, she is compelled to revisit the years of her tempestuous marriage with him. Fights, squabbles, hurt and pain take center-stage in the beginning, but her thoughts become more introspective, more forgiving, by the hour.

Chatterjee and Sengupta’s star status aside, the film was lauded by critics for Adhya’s nuanced performance as Malini. Previously seen in secondary roles in films and television, Adhya had the space to showcase her talents as the second lead in Praktan. Anupam Roy’s lilting numbers like Tumi Jaake Bhalobasho provided the emotional heft to the film.
