Paayel Sarkar started as a model for the magazine Unish Kuri. Now she is a popular actress in Tollywood who has worked with directors like Raj Chakraborty, Arindam Sil, Raja Chanda, Birsa Dasgupta, Rabi Kinagi, Abhijit Guha, and so on. She also appeared in a Hindi serial directed by Anurag Basu. Just before the assembly election in 2021, Paayel joined politics and contested the election, and then withdrew herself from politics. She will soon be seen in the film Bhorer Alo and the Sisir Bhadury biopic Borobabu. Paayel recently talked to Hindustan Times Bangla about film and politics.

Talking about her character in Bhorer Alom she said, “Since one side is paralyzed, the character has not much to do physically. She has to portray everything by expression. It is not like I am taking a lot of preparations. But I have read the script and am trying to understand what the director wants. I am also being careful of maintaining the continuity at some points.”

Paayel will be seen opposite Somraj. “My character's name is Rupsa, and Somraj is Ajay. Ajay takes care of Rupsa, who is paralyzed since a childhood accident. Her father is dead. They have promised to marry each other.”

Paayel will also be seen in the biopic of Sisir Bhadury, Borobabu, directed by Reshmi Mitra. “My character’s name is Kankabati. Kankabati was the first female graduate to come to the theatre, a practice not followed by educated women of that time. Kankabati was an excellent singer, who even sang in front of Tagore. Kankabati met Sisir BHadury and joined his theatre group. An intellectual bonding grew between them, though there was a huge age gap. All these will be shown in the film,” the actress said.
