Apple TV+ recently unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming series Pachinko, based on The New York Times bestseller by Min Jin Lee.
Starring Kim Min-ha, Lee Min-ho, and Academy Award-winning actress Yoon Yuh Jung, it traces the trials and tribulations of one family over four generations set across Korea, Japan and America. The trailer opens with Sunja's birth in the 1900s, her youth and then her old age, but what ties these stories together are the choices she made for herself.
From the looks of the trailer, the show seems to be completely faithful to the source material.
Pachinko is written and executive produced by Soo Hugh, who is also the creator and the showrunner. Kogonada and Justin Chon are executive producers and directed four episodes each. Kogonada has also helmed the pilot.
Soji Arai will be seen as Mozasu; Jin Ha as Solomon; Inji Jeong as Yangjin; Minha Kim as teenage Sunja; Lee Minho as Hansu; Kaho Minami as Etsuko; Steve Sanghyun Noh as Isak; Anna Sawai as Naomi; Junwoo Han as Yoseb; Eun Chae Jung as young Kyunghee; Jimmi Simpson as Tom Andrews; Yu-na Jeon as young Sunja; and Youn Yuh Jung as older Sunja.
Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer executive produce via Media Res; Theresa Kang-Lowe executive produces for Blue Marble Pictures; and Media Res’ Dani Gorin co-executive produces, along with Richard Middleton, David Kim and Sebastian Lee.
Pachinko will be told in Korean, Japanese and English. The first three episodes are set to premiere on Apple TV+ on March 25.
