Director Kamal KM’s much-awaited Pada, which has Kunchacko Boban, Joju George, Vinayakan and Dileesh Pothan, hit theatres on March 11 after a long delay since it completed its shooting. The movie, which has an ensemble cast, sheds light on issues such as the tribal communities’ displacement by focusing on a true event.

The incident, which the movie covers in detail, is the 1996 hostage drama in Palakkad where a group of members, who identified themselves as Ayyankali Pada, barged into the collector’s chamber and held him hostage. Their protest was against the amendment of the Adivasi Land Act by the Kerala government that deprived the marginalised community of their own land.

The film has Kunchacko, Joju, Vinayakan and Dileesh playing the four members who held the collector hostage. Arjun Radhakrishnan, who played APJ Abdul Kalam in Rocket Boys and Amitabh Bachchan’s son in Jhund recently, essays the role of the collector in the film, which also has Prakash Raj, Indrans, TG Ravi, Kani Kusruti, Unnimaya, Jagadish, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Shine Tom Chacko and Salim Kumar.

The movie, we have learnt, will stream on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run. Kunchacko Boban’s past releases Bheemante Vazhi, Mohan Kumar Fans and Nizhal too dropped on the OTT platform after its theatrical run. The movie will release on the platform on March 30 and will be followed by Tovino Thomas and Anna Ben's Naradhan on April 8 and Shane Nigam's Veyil on April 15.

Meanwhile, Kunchacko is currently shooting for Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval’s Nna Thaan Case Kodu. He has also completed filming Ottu, which has Arvind Swami, Jackie Shroff and Eesha Rabba as part of its cast. The Malayalam-Tamil blilingual, directed by Fellini TP, is expected to be his next theatrical release.
