K.M. Kamal’s thriller drama based on real events titled Pada, came out on March 11. Arjun Radhakrishnan, who plays an important role in the movie has now opened up about the film, saying that it opened up a new world to him.
Talking in an interview with ETimes, the actor said that he was called in to be a part of Pada by assistant director Pranav while I was acting in the Amitabh Bachchan’s sports drama, Jhund. Actually,
“I applied for the role of SP Sachin Aggarwal in the film and Kamal ettan (Kamal KM) asked me to try for the collector’s role. So that's how I ended up playing Ajay Sripad Dange in ‘Pada’.”
The actor adds that this was because of the way he speaks or because he does not have any sort of connection with Malayalam, that director Kamal assigned him the role of the Palakkad collector.
Radhakrishnan said that he felt satisfaction after all the positive response from the audience. He adds that he never thought he would act in a Malayalam movie but it opened up a new world.
Written and directed by Kamal K.M., the movie also stars Kunchacko Boban, Joju George, Vinayakan, and Dileesh Pothan. The movie received glowing reviews following its release.
“Kamal KM’s Pada works as a stark and relevant reminder of the hostage drama in 1996 and how the issue has still not been addressed 25 years later. However, those who are aware of the incident and how it went down, wouldn’t be too engrossed as the cinematic elements are toned down.” reads OTTplay’s review for the film.
