For a lot of reasons, Padavettu is a special movie for Malayalam star Nivin Pauly. The actor decided to sign on for the project in 2019, when he was ready to do more commercially-oriented films as he was so enthralled with the subject. It took almost three years for the shoot to be completed due to the pandemic and now the movie is finally ready to release.
Padavettu is scripted and helmed by debutant Liju Krishna, and has Nivin, Aditi Balan, Indrans, Shine Tom Chacko and Shammi Thilakan in pivotal roles. The film, which is also co-produced by actor Sunny Wayne, was initially supposed to have Manju Warrier in an extended cameo but the actress’ portions that were shot were later dropped as it didn’t fit into the story.
In a recent interaction with the press, Nivin opened up about what the movie, which is made on a big budget, is about. The actor, who plays the character named Ravi in the socio-political drama, said that the film tells the tale of people who have suffered defeats. “This story is about the resistance of such people when others once again try to defeat them,” he said.
The movie’s director Liju Krishna further added that the film also discusses several issues of socio-political significance from the perspectives of farmers. In fact, a majority of the characters in the film, which is set against the Malabar backdrop, are essayed by real-life farmers.
Padavettu, which marks Nivin’s second theatrical release since the pandemic, will release on October 21. The film will go up against Mohanlal’s Monster as well as other languages releases such as Karthi’s Sardar and the Malayalam version of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara. Padavettu holds the edge over the other films, considering that Monster doesn’t have the usual hype of a Mohanlal festival release. Meanwhile, Nivin also has Saturday Night set for release on November 4.
