Padmini director Senna Hegde: The romance shown in in Arjun Reddy is very toxic

Senna Hegde, known for the film Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, is gearing up for the release of his next film, Padmini. The director, who is known for his unconventional filmmaking style and his affinity for single shots, shared his views on the hit film Arjun Reddy in an interview with Silly Monks Mollywood.

Speaking about the Vijay Devarakonda film, Senna said that the relationships depicted in Arjun Reddy are toxic. He added that the relationship between the lead characters in the film is fictional and not at all close to reality.

“Arjun Reddy worked for the viewers. Even though it is fictional, I found the romance in Arjun Reddy toxic. People come from diverse backgrounds and have different life experiences. We see only a part of relationships in films, and you can't judge them from the outside," said Senna.

Talking about his film, Senna said that Padmini is a light-hearted entertainer, which is tailor-made for Kunchako Boban.

“Padmini is a simple, light-hearted movie, with Chackochan as the lovable boy next door. He has essayed many characters like this before, so he perfectly fits the role,” Senna said in the interview.

Padmini's release date was delayed after the torrential rainfall in Kerala. It is now slated to release in theatres on July 14. With Dileep’s Voice of Sathyanathan and Soubin’s Valatty also deferring their release, Padmini is set to have an uncontested week-long run in Kerala.

Along with Kunchako Boban, Padmini also stars Madonna Sebastian, Vincy Aloshious, and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles. Scripted by Deepu Pradeep, Sreeraj Raveendran is the cinematographer, and Manu Antony the editor.

Senna's Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam is among the most treasured satirical comedies in the Malayalam film industry. The film, which bagged the State Award for the Second Best Film, is a hilarious film based on the life of an average conservative family in North Kerala. It is a take on the patriarchal system through the lens of an arranged marriage. Senna's other film, Sharafudeen’s 1744 White Alto, was also a quirky experimental film.
