Anaswara Rajan, who impressed audiences with her nuanced portrayal in Asif Ali-starrer Rekhachithram, was back with Painkili in February 2025. The interesting Malayalam movie, which also stars Sajin Gopu, is now all set to make its OTT debut on Manorama Max. Here’s everything that you know about the Malayalam film, directed by Sreejith Babu.

Painkili on Manorama Max

Manorama Max has announced on their Instagram page Painkili, starring Anaswara Rajan and Sajin Gopu, will be available for streaming on the platform soon. However, the platform did not confirm the exact OTT release date of Painkili but assured viewers that it will be out soon. Like the other movies on Manorama Max, Painkili will also be available in Malayalam with English subtitles.

The over-the-top nature of the film meant that it did not find many takers when it was released in theatres for Valentine's Day, but it is expected to find more love upon its OTT premiere.

Painkili plot and why watch the film on OTT

Painkili narrates the tale of Suku and Shiba. Suku gets admitted to a mental asylum after believing that his action caused a death. On the other hand, the young Shiba has made up her mind to elope. This over-the-top film follows the events after their paths cross.

One of the major reasons to watch Painkili is its lead cast of Anaswara Rajan and Sajin Gopu. Anaswara has been consistently delivering remarkable performances in movies such as Super Sharanya. In Painkili too, she plays her zany character to the hilt.

Sajin Gopu, on the other hand, instantly clicked with the audiences for his performance as Amban in Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham. Sajin Gopu brings the right amount of quirkiness to the film.

As compelling thriller movies seem to be the go-to genre in Malayalam these days, the comedy entertainer offers a good respite from scenes of gory violence. For its attempt to try something different, Painkili deserves to be on your watchlist.
