It’s not just big-budget Malayalam action thrillers such as Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan and Unni Mukundan's A-rated superhit Marco that have had a huge hype going on before their releases. Even smaller films with a talented cast, sans any superstars, seem to be hugely anticipated among the fans. A recent example was director Sreejith Babu’s Painkili, which had Aavesham and Romancham fame Sajin Gopu and Anaswara Rajan, who was a part of Rekhachithram that you can stream now.

After a short theatrical run, the quirky comedy, scripted by Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan, is now all set for OTT release – that too on two leading streaming platforms ahead of Vishu.

Painkili to release on multiple OTT platforms

The film, which revolves around two oddball characters, hit theatres on February 14, 2025. Given that it was backed by actor Fahadh Faasil, who also co-produced the 2024 Valentine’s Day release Premalu, which had become a blockbuster, the audience had huge expectations from Painkili.

Though the film couldn’t really live up to it, it did have its moments – courtesy of its writing by Jithu and some over-the-top performances by Sajin and the rest of the cast. Some of these are sure to be celebrated once the movie drops on OTT.

Painkili was initially announced to drop on Manorama Max on April 11. But judging by the trend, especially for films such as Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Oru Jaathi Jathakam and Soubin Shahir’s Machante Maalakha, Painkili could drop on Manorama Max first and would be followed by it being available on Amazon Prime Video later in the day.
