Pakalum Paathiraavum: ZEE5 bags the streaming rights for Kunchacko Boban, Rajisha Vijayan’s thriller

Director Ajai Vasudev, who is known for his ‘mass’ entertainers such as Masterpiece and Rajadhi Raja, is gearing up for the release of his first-ever ‘realistic’ thriller. The movie titled Pakalum Paathiraavum, which is scripted by Nishad Koya, has Kunchacko Boban, Rajisha Vijayan, Seetha, Guru Somasundaram and Manoj KU as part of the past.

The team on Sunday announced its theatrical release date of March 3. This will be Kunchacko’s first release this year. Nishad, who had earlier scripted Kunchacko-starrers such as Ordinary and Shikkari Shambu, had earlier told us that the film is based on NN Pillai’s play Dam.

The movie will be an interpretation of Dam, he said, adding that “it’s a huge deal to adapt one of NN Pillai sir’s works with the permission of his family”. The film revolves around a stranger, essayed by Kunchacko, who turns up one night and decides to stay with a family, unaware of what their true intentions are. The film had completed its post-production works last year.

Pakalum Paathiraavum has Christopher cinematographer Faiz Siddik, editor Riyas Badhar, composers Sam CS and Stephen Devassy as part of its crew. The film’s OTT rights have already been bought by ZEE5, with ZEE Kerala acquiring its satellite rights.

ZEE5, meanwhile, has been on a signing spree in Malayalam these days. The platform has already bagged the streaming rights for Antony Varghese’s comedy-entertainer Poovan and will also begin streaming Pranaya Vilasam after its theatrical run. The latter stars Arjun Ashokan, Mamitha Baiju and Anaswara Rajan, who had acted together in last year’s superhit Super Sharanya that is also streaming on ZEE5.

Meanwhile, Kunchacko is currently busy with Senna Hegde’s Padmini, which also has Aparna Balamurali and Madonna Sebastian in the lead. We have learnt that the film’s OTT rights have also been sold with it fetching a record price for a Kunchacko-starrer.
