Director Ram, whose last release was the 2019 film Peranbu, is gearing up for the release of his next film Paranthu Po, a musical comedy which will hit theatres on July 4. The film, which stars actors like Mirchi Shiva, Aju Varghese, Grace Antony and others, marks Ram’s comeback after nearly after six years. In a recent interview on the sidelines of promoting the film, Ram spoke about how his protagonists (mostly men) are man child.
In a recent conversation about his film Parandhu Po, director Ram was asked about how his protagonists are man-child. Agreeing to this, the filmmaker explained it why:
"I am a man-child myself, and I don't mean stubborn. When someone asks me a question, I can easily get triggered and go on to talk without censor and filter. When my stories do not have antagonists, only when he (protagonists) is man-child, I will have conflict. He would be a man with flaws. Usually, heroes are expected to be a complete man, and flawless. But when you don't have a villain in the film, when your hero is a man-child, it is easy to play. Because he is innocent, fool, bad, evil, smart and everything.”
Scheduled for a theatrical release on July 4, Paranthu Po’s post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by JioHotstar. An OTT release date will be announced later.
The film revolves around a schoolboy who is adamant as he takes a road trip with his father who is financially weak. But their road trip away from the busy nature of city, takes them to a self-discovery travel where they meet strangers and take a slice of their lives along with them. Touted to be a musical comedy, Paranthu Po had a festival run earlier and had premiered at the International Festival of Rotterdam.
