Parasakthi, the recently released Tamil film starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, is currently running in theatres. The film is a period political drama, and was a solo release last week given Jana Nayagan had postponed its release. With the weekend over and Pongal releases to release this week, let’s see how much the film made at the box office.

Parasakthi, the period political drama based on true events, hit theatres on January 10 after last-minute censor delays. It stars actor Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role and marks his 25th film. As per Sacnilk, the film has made Rs 53.25 crore worldwide in four days. Parasakthi had an edge over this weekend given it is the only big-ticket film that ran in theatres, after Vijay's Jana Nayagan had been delayed. Out of the Rs 53 crore, the India box office collection contributed Rs 33.25 crore gross, with Rs 20 crore coming from rest of world. Domestic box office, Parasakthi made a stark fall from Rs 10 crore (Sunday) to Rs 3 crore on Monday, further to Rs 2.4 crore on Tuesday.
However, with two Tamil films releasing this week, Vaa Vaathiyaar starring Karthi and Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil featuring Jiiva, for the Pongal weekend, Parasakthi will be facing some competition. Parasakthi is expected to run for a few more weeks before it makes OTT debut.

Parasakthi is set in the 1950s and 60s Tamil Nadu, a period when political tensions rose due to the anti-Hindi agitations led by students. Director Sudha Kongara has helmed the project, which also stars Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, Atharvaa and others with Basil Joseph, Rana Daggubati and Dhananjay making cameo appearances.
The film takes inspirations from true events and uses cinematic liberty to tell the fight for language rights that took place in the history of Tamil Nadu. GV Prakash scored the music with camera cranked by Ravi Chandran. It is reported that Parasakthi’s OTT rights have been bagged by ZEE5 and if so, will be available for OTTplay subscribers as well once the film completes the theatrical run.
