Parasakthi, the period political drama starring actor Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, hit theatres on Saturday. Directed by filmmaker Sudha Kongara, Parsakthi had released following the last-minute censor delays. But how much did the film make despite the hurdles?

The first big-ticket film of this year in Tamil cinema is Parasakthi. The Sivakarthikeyan-starrer film is a period political drama, and was released on January 10 in theatres. Written and directed by filmmaker Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi marks the first time the actor and director are collaborating.
As per Sacnilk, Parasakthi has made Rs 13.65 crore worldwide on day one at the box office. With Rs 11.5 crore coming from India, and the rest overseas, Parasakthi has failed to beat the opening collections of Sivakarthikeyan's previous outings, Madharaasi and Amaran. While the latter opened to Rs 35 crore worldwide, Madharaasi made Rs 25 crore.
However, Parasakthi had hit a bumper given the film does not have any competition from any other Tamil films, given Vijay’s Jana Nayagan had to postpone its release. With the Sivakarthikeyan film having the weekend for itself, Parasakthi has scope to collect more.
Parasakthi is a period political drama and talks about the anti-Hindi agitations that took place in Tamil Nadu by students in the 1960s. The film explores the opposition that students of that era led against the ruling Union government, which had imposed Hindi as the official language of the country.

Besides Sivakarthikeyan, the film also features Sreeleela in her Tamil debut, Ravi Mohan as antagonist, and Atharvaa in a supporting role. Apart from them, actors Rana Daggubati, Basil Joseph and Dhananjay also make cameo appearances. Parasakthi marks Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th film and composer GV Prakash’s 100th outing.
Parasakthi has runtime of two hours and 43 minutes, and was censored U/A certificate. The movie faced censor delays by CBFC and received 25 modifications, which the team adhered to.
