Parul Gulati's next series has been revealed and she has taken up the role of a dacoit this time around. While the actress plays a dacoit for the first time, it is not a genre that is new in Bollywood, even for actresses. Starting from the iconic Seema Biswas in Bandit Queen (based on real-life dacoit Phoolan Devi) to Jaya Pradha in Zakhmi Zameen, we have seen actresses nail the character over-and-over. Nonetheless, Parul is collaborating with one of TV's heartthrobs Barun Sobti for the project, which has left fans excited for the upcoming series titled Donali. Here's everything you need to know...
Following the steps of Bhumi Pednekar in Sonchiriya and Sridevi in Sherni to name a few, the latest actress to play a dacoit on-screen is Parul Gulati. "It wasn't just about getting the action moves right, it was about attitude, body language, and authenticity. Learning to handle the desi katta and double-barrel rifle gave me a whole new perspective on the character," the actress said while confirming the news to Mid-Day. "From understanding trigger discipline, mastering weapon retention to handling it safely under stress, the process demanded both physical conditioning and mental calibration," she added.
The show, which is currently titled Donali, is Parul Gulati's first-time collaboration with actor Barun Sobti. Although the actor has been stereotyped as the romantic hero, he has carefully explored newer opportunities through OTT and Donali promises to see him in a completely different light. Whether he too plays a dacoit on the show remains uncertain at this point.
Donali is helmed by Jimmy Sheirgill's Your Honor and Tanaav director E Niwas (Eeshwar Nivas). There are no further updates on the cast, release date or platform for the series at this point. However, the series could release on SonyLIV. An official announcement for the same is awaited.
