With the thriller Pathaam Valavu, Joseph and Mamangam director M Padmakumar is back in a genre that has resulted in several successes over the years. The team recently unveiled the motion poster of the movie, which has Indrajith Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in lead.
On the movie, its scriptwriter Abhilash Pillai tells OTTplay, “It’s based on a real-life incident that shook Kerala a few years ago. This is a cinematic version of those events. The movie is essentially a thriller but the story also has elements that will appeal to the family audience, with space for action and emotions.”
The team had begun the shoot of the film in April but had to temporarily halt it due to the second wave of COVID-19 in Kerala. “We had shot for 12 days back then. We are now planning to resume by September first week. Depending on the COVID-19 situation in Kerala, we will take a call on whether to shoot in Kerala or look at other states, as we have a few big sequences to be filmed,” says Abhilash.
On the lead characters, the scriptwriter says that Suraj will be seen in different looks. “We can’t reveal much about his role as it would spoil the suspense of the plot. Indraettan again has not played such a role before,” he says.
The movie also has Aditi Ravi and Swasika Vijay as part of the cast. Composer Ranjin Raj will be teaming up with Padmakumar again after Joseph with Pathaam Valavu, which also marks the debut of cinematographer Ratheesh Ram who had earlier worked as an associate of Shaji Kumar.
Both Abhilash and Padmakumar also have two Tamil projects awaiting release. While Padmakumar has completed the Tamil remake of Joseph titled Visithiran, Abhilash has scripted Amala Paul’s forensic thriller Cadaver. “We will be announcing Cadaver’s release date in the next two weeks, by when there would be a confirmation of theatres reopening in Tamil Nadu,” says Abhilash.
