Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's action thriller Pathaan released on Wednesday with tremendous hoopla, one day before Republic Day. After four years, the superstar makes his long-awaited return to the big screen in a full-fledged role. It goes without saying that moviegoers everywhere were eager to see the movie. As pictures from theatres have started going viral on social media, the audience has responded thunderously to Siddharth Anand's film. This also explains why the movie had such a seismic launch.
The movie is on track to make over Rs. 100 crores worldwide on the first day only, depending on how the actuals come in. Early indications indicate that the global opening will be close to Rs 102 crore. Even if it falls short, somewhere between Rs. 98 and Rs. 99 crores is set aside. This will surpass Thugs of Hindostan's previous record for Bollywood box office gross by 30% to 35%. Because the movie was released in the middle of the week on a non-holiday, there were doubts that it could shatter the first-day record. Since the industry is more weekend-heavy overseas, midweek release is a significant restricting issue. However, Pathaan has completely destroyed the record.
The first day of the movie's international release brought in about $1.5 million from North America, and almost $1 million from the Gulf nations. On a non-holiday, the movie has surpassed War and Thugs of Hindostan's day one domestic totals. Net box office revenues and gross box office earnings are separate. While the money collected from the complete sale of movie tickets is included in the gross box office collection, the term "net" refers to the gross box office collection less government deductions such as entertainment tax, service tax, etc.
Pathaan is directed by Siddharth Anand and also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. Salman Khan appears in a cameo as his character from the Tiger films. The film is produced by Yash Raj Films.
