When anchor-turned-actor Sheetal Shetty’s 2019 film, Pathibeku.com, released in theatres, it received mixed reviews. While some lauded the filmmaker’s attempt at portraying the heroine as ‘the man of the film’, others called it a senseless disaster. The film followed the trials and tribulations of the heroine, a girl from a lower middle-class family for whom even entertaining the idea of coughing up dowry is out of question, in her quest for love and marriage.

Pathibeku.com, directed by Rakesh, is about Bhagya (Sheetal Shetty), whose parents have no savings to speak of, so the question of being able to pay dowry or rather meet the ‘gifts’ criteria laid down by prospective grooms, does not even arise. And yet, they are still on the arranged marriage trail, until Bhagya figures it might just get easier to find a ‘love match’, but only after having met over 60 potential grooms. In earlier interviews, prior to the release of the film, Sheetal had been quoted as saying that the subject of Pathibeku.com will resonate with households were folks are groom-hunting for their daughters. “The story is about a girl in her late 20s, who is being pressurised by her parents to get married, and so she gets on a matrimonial site to find a groom. The consequences and challenges she faces during her search for a life partner is the crux of Pathibeku.com. It’s a fun narrative,” Sheetal had been quoted as saying to an English daily.

Pathibeku.com also features Aru Gowda, Salmaan, late Rockline Sudhakar, Harini and Krishna Adiga on its cast. The film’s music is by Harsha, and the cinematography is by Yogi. The film has now found its way to a streaming platform and can be seen on the Kannada OTT platform, NammaFlix. The film began streaming on the platform over the Sankranti weekend. If you had not seen it when it hit theatres, here's your chance now.

The first major Kannada release on NammaFlix was the Priyanka Upendra-starrer 1980, which had a direct-to-OTT outing. Since then, the platform has been adding to its basket films like Kapo Kalpitham, Days of Borapura, Naanu L/O Jaanu, Kildai Police, Jiilka, among others.
