While director Vinayan had always maintained that his latest film Pathonpathaam Noottandu will be a marquee project in Malayalam, few believed that it would be as good as some of previous historical films that had come out from the industry – including Mammootty’s Mamangam, Nivin Pauly’s Kayamkulam Kochunni and Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. However, the first trailer of the movie has surprised almost everyone with its stunning visuals, brilliant set pieces and a making that could rival some of the best period films in the country.

The team released the trailer of the movie, which has Siju Wilson playing its lead character of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, on Saturday. The video revealed that the makers have spared no expense to ensure that the story, which is based on true events from the 19th century, is told without any compromise.

The period detailing in the movie is a highlight and Siju gets a role that he promises to own. Apart from the social reformer who fought against the oppression of the lower castes, the movie also features several important historical figures including Nangeli, who is played by Kayadu Lohar, Kayamkulam Kochunni, essayed by Chemban Vinod Jose, as well as the king and queen of Travancore – portrayed by Anoop Menon and Poonam Bajwa, respectively.

The trailer also revealed a few glimpses of the action scenes from the movie and they promise to be enthralling. In fact, the director had earlier revealed that Pathonpathaam Noottandu will be a historical action-thriller that is the biggest production venture of Sree Gokulam Films, which had also backed Rosshan Andrrews’ Kayamkulam Kochunni a few years ago.

The film, which is set to release in theatres during Onam next month, has art director Ajayan Chalissery, composers M Jayachandran and Santosh Narayanan, stunt choreographers Supreme Sundar and Rajasekhar, cinematographer Shaji Kumar and editor Vivek Harshan as part of its technical crew.

Deepti Sati, Sudheer Karamana, Sudev Nair, Senthil Krishna and Suresh Krishna also play pivotal roles in the period film, which marks Vinayan’s biggest project yet.
