PC Shekar steps into short-format series making with relationship drama Just Us
Director PC Shekar presents an 8-episode miniseries that delves into the conversations a guy and girl should have before getting into a committed relationship, like, marriage

Kannada filmmaker PC Shekar, known for films like Romeo , Raaga , Style King, Love Birds, etc., is now trying his hand at short-format story-telling. Shekar has shot an 8-episode mini-series called Just Us, starring newcomers Vivek and Megha to explore must-have conversations that people should have before getting into relationships like marriage. Each episode is around 9-10 minutes long, with the first one set to drop on Shekar’s YouTube page on January 1, 2026.
“As a filmmaker, I have often felt constrained by the limitations of commercial cinema; you have to write it for specific actors, keeping their images in mind, or focus on incorporating elements that will ensure the producer will recover his/her money, etc. As a writer, this curtails your freedom significantly. I had started my career in the hope of doing offbeat cinema and experimenting with genres, but I got caught up in the commercial film trap and will continue making them. But I also want to satisfy my creative urge and do something that I truly want to present. That’s where the idea of web content began,” explains Shekar.
The filmmaker is taking his mini-series to YouTube and providing audiences access free of cost. Why not release it through a mainstream platform instead? “YouTube is the right platform, because I do not have to convince anyone about the merit of my content. I can do whatever I feel. It will also be a lot more transparent as far as viewership and feedback goes. Just Us is not a one-off project; the idea is to make more such content, whenever I have a break between my film commitments,” says Shekar, adding that the initiative is also meant to give new talent a platform to showcase their skillsets.
Shekar adds that although the series has been shot on a limited budget, he has ensured cinematic making quality with cinematography by Vaidhy, music by Arjun Janya’s assistant Pradeep Varma and so on. “We have even erected a set, with people who worked on my films earlier. There is no compromise on quality,” he says. So, is he putting all 8 episodes out on New Year’s Day? “Right now, the plan is to release one episode per week, but if the initial response is good and there is demand, we will bring out the rest earlier than scheduled,” he adds.
