Peddha Kapu 1, marking the acting debut of Virat Karrna, the nephew of Akhanda producer Miryala Ravinder Reddy, was released in theatres amidst huge expectations on September 29. The film, in which Pragati Srivastava played the female lead, was written and directed by Srikanth Addala. Despite the good pre-release buzz, the action drama failed to perform well at the box office.
Within four weeks of its theatrical release, the actioner is now out on OTT. Amazon Prime Video acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights to the film and premiered it earlier this week. Rao Ramesh, Naga Babu, Tanikella Bharani, Brigada Saga, Rajeev Kanakala, Anusuya Bharadwaj, Easwari Rao, and Aadukalam Naren played other crucial roles in the film, which has music by Mickey J Meyer.
The film commences an important event in the 1980s: film star NTR officially announces his political entry, establishing his Telugu Desam Party. How far does that go in altering the power hierarchies within a village? The tale portrays the bitter rivalry between two rival groups in a sleepy village in Andhra Pradesh and how a youngster, Peddha Kapu, stands up for the masses in an hour of need.
NTR’s political era was a sign of new hope for the masses in Andhra Pradesh in the 1980s. His political speeches and assertions of standing up for the needy made a huge impact in the state, eventually helping him sit on the CM’s chair within 9 months of establishing his party. While using this political event as a hook, Srikanth Addala tells the story of a village that’s stuck in a time warp.
Though Peddha Kapu 1 earned mixed reviews upon release, it tells an important story and ventures into a territory that not many filmmakers have explored previously. Chota K Naidu’s cinematography garnered huge praise from a set of audiences. Will Peddha Kapu 1 be received kindly on OTT? We’ll know soon.
