Just over a month ago, Neerdose director Vijayaprasad’s first film with Sathish Ninasam, which was also his second collaboration with Hariprriya, released in theatres. The film was an A-rated adult comedy with a strong philosophical message and was one of four Kannada releases that week. The story followed four grown-up orphans – three men and a woman – and their struggle to find a rented accommodation, which, of course, proves to be far more difficult than anticipated because they are all unmarried.
While the film attracted audiences initially, once the word spread that it balances comedy and philosophy equally, its fate at the box office was sealed. Audiences who were expecting a start-to-finish laugh riot based on the content in the trailer were disappointed with the emotional part of the film, which raised questions about who is really an orphan – one with no parents, or one with family but who is still alone. The narrative also followed a different style with the actors almost interacting with audiences.
Following the film’s poor showing at the box office, the filmmaker took to social media with a note taking full responsibility for the same. He said that it was not the fault of cinema goers or his cast and crew, but entirely his doing that the film did not reach the target audience as desired. He also apologized to audiences for the same.
The film is now finding its way to OTT. Earlier today, it was announced that the film would be coming to Voot Select on August 26. “One might achieve everything in their life, but nothing can compensate for the love missing in their lives. Will they be able to find it? Watch #Petromax streaming from 26th August only on #VootSelect”, read the official post.
The filmmaker is now gearing up for the release of his second film with Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh, Thotapuri, which also has a lot of adult comedy along with a social message. The film is being released in two parts, with the first coming out on September 30 for Dasara.
